CIGRE Technical Exhibition & Conference, Paris, August 26th 2018 - Diagnóstico del Aislamiento Eléctrico, S.L. (“DIAEL”), a leading worldwide provider of high-voltage partial discharge solutions and consultancy services announced that they have selected PicoScope 5000D FlexRes oscilloscopes as a key component for their new MS Pico portable system for partial discharge measurement.

Partial discharge measurement is the most important technique for assessing the insulation condition of high-voltage systems and provides an effective solution for assessing the reliability of electrical installations.

The MS Pico system uses patented “BlueBOX” partial discharge measurement and analysis technology to assess the condition of the insulation of appliances, equipment and materials for high-voltage installations such as GIS, transformers and, especially, insulated cables, either during operation in the network (on-line) or out of service by mobile generators (off-line).

BlueBOX Technology digitally processes captured signals in order to distinguish transient events that are a characteristic of partial discharge signals from the normal patterns of the electrical noise. With this technology it is possible to find partial discharge signals obscured by the noise level, even when the noise is random.

Javier Ortego, Managing Director at DIAEL, said “The PicoScope 5000D enables capture of high-speed transients with sampling speeds to 1 GS/s at 8-bit resolution, and can be switched to measure slower signals with up to 16-bit resolution and greater than 70 dB SFDR, making it ideal for the wide range of signals that need to be captured with the MS Pico test system.”

Trevor Smith, Business Development Manager at Pico Technology, added his support, saying “DIAEL have a proven track record in partial discharge testing, having been granted US patents for a new method to monitor partial discharge in high-voltage cables with splices and terminations. The PicoScope 5000D has helped DIAEL to bring that technology to market in an affordable form factor for power network operators.”

The MS Pico test system is available now, sold through the network of DIAEL distributors worldwide.

About Pico Technology

Pico Technology has spent over 25 years leading the industry in the design, development and manufacture of high-performance PC Oscilloscopes and Data Loggers, while engineers at our Eastern Europe office have been working in the RF and microwave market since 1974.

Together we have built up an impressive and innovative portfolio of small-footprint, high-performance products and software, often at uniquely low prices. Examples are the PicoScope PC Sampling Oscilloscope range with bandwidths up to 25 GHz; real-time oscilloscopes with fixed and flexible hardware resolutions up to 16 bits, deep buffer memories and mixed-signal capability; the TC‑08 and PT‑104 Temperature Data Loggers; and the multi-award-winning Automotive Oscilloscope Kit.

About DIAEL

DIAEL is a Spanish technology-based company that develops and manufactures partial discharge monitoring products. DIAEL has a large experience in monitoring services of high voltage installations, with over 400 measurements in more than 10 countries.

The BlueBOX technology for partial discharge measurement commercialized by DIAEL permits the detection and localization of defects in high voltage installations through non-invasive measurements performed online or offline. This technology, promoted by Spanish electricity companies and developed by the Polytechnic University of Madrid, has been widely tested and validated during recent years in Spanish and foreign electrical installations.

The measurement of partial discharges with this technology permits an automatic noise suppression facilitating the measurement to operators with a basic knowledge. The insulation status diagnosis is performed through efficient tools allowing to detect precisely the defects of the installation.
